Some of them aren’t very good, but things the randomised Roadblock Challenges in Bowling are actually quite a bit of fun. Although we found that those that hadn’t played the original – or couldn’t really remember it – had no such complaints.Īnd to prove that this isn’t the thoughtless cash grab you might have assumed all the games have new modes and mini-games, including a whole new course for golf. The mechanics are still largely the same but the accuracy required of the players will no doubt lead to many complaining that the controls are ‘broken’ or that it’s now ‘too difficult’. Of course the natural consequence of these new controls is that all the games require quite a bit more skill to excel at, and many of your old tricks may not now work. A giant arrow shows you which way to look, but as you spin around trying to follow it it’s never quite as easy as that sounds. Pitching allows you to pick your spot and the type of throw, while fielding is handled by looking at the touchscreen and titling the controller to catch the ball.
The HD version now doesn’t bother to use the nunchuck but even with two Wii MotionPlus remotes it still feels inaccurate and random.īaseball works much better and, like Golf, makes some interesting use of the GamePad. Unfortunately there’s not much either the GamePad or Wii MotionPlus can do to help Boxing, which was always the silliest and least accurate of the games. The classic advice to ‘keep your eye on the ball’ is now literal, as you set-up your shot, take your swing, and then watch the ball sail into view on the TV. In fact it’s one of the cleverest uses of the controller so far, as you place it on the floor so that it can show you where the ball and your club is as you move around.
